The Metropolitan Transit District will use $1.3 million in state bond money to replace its 40-foot diesel buses with more eco-friendly hybrid buses. Jerry Estrada, MTD assistant general manager controller, said he expects organization administrators to put an order in for the replacement buses within the next 60 days.

Caltrans announced last week that 107 public transit and air quality projects across California are set to receive more than $235 million from Proposition 1B, the 2006 transportation bond. The bond money’s distribution is a key step in a statewide effort to improve air quality and public transit.
