District 9 is a 2009 sci-fi film about a race of extraterrestrial creatures trapped by humans in a refugee camp in Johannesburg, South Africa. Partially inspired by events that took place in the same country during apartheid, the film stars Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, and Robert Hobbs. Magic Lantern will screen District 9 this Friday, November 13, at 7 and 10 p.m., and on Monday, November 16, at 10 p.m., at Isla Vista Theater (960 Embarcadero del Norte). Tickets are $4.
