An incident at a construction site at Goleta Valley Hospital led to 200 gallons of diesel fuel being spilt.

Construction workers were attempting to move a 1,000-gallon fuel tank when it tipped over and spilled on the construction site at approximately 8:10 a.m., Friday, January 8. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit responded that afternoon, and a clean-up crew was called to remove the contaminated soil.

The hospital last month began a two-year project on a new acute-care facility with 52 beds. The end result will be a new, two-story hospital that will total 152,000 square feet, doubling the size of the emergency department. The construction project will also bring Goleta Valley Hospital up to seismic requirements.
