Gardening Tips for January

What to Plant this Month

Tue Jan 12, 2010 | 06:00am

• Order seeds for spring and summer planting. Most can be started ahead of time—six weeks or so—and then planted out as indicated on the package.

• Even if your roses haven’t dropped all their leaves and may still even have a blossom or two, prune this month to give them the dormancy they need for next season’s show.

• Plant anything and everything that is available bare-root, from fruit trees to roses to asparagus.
