Seriously: Reschedule It

Tue Jun 08, 2010 | 04:30pm

If the medicinal cannabis dispensary detractors are serious about protecting our youth and wanting cannabis to be available for the thousands of ill and infirm in this country who benefit from the medicinal use of cannabis, they will join the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine (AACM) in insisting that cannabis be rescheduled. This will allow commercial greenhouses, such as the flower growers in Carpinteria, to produce medical cannabis and allow pharmacies to dispense cannabis as they did from 1854 to 1941. Further, the time and energy being used to fight dispensaries would be put to better use getting an adequately funded program for parenting, early intervention, prevention, and a comprehensive approach to at-risk youth. If the anti-dispensary activists can’t support these actions that will treat this medicine as are other medicines, then it’s hard to take these critics seriously.—David Bearman, M.D.
