Project Upgrade Grants Establish Infrastructure for Education

Tue Oct 05, 2010 | 12:02pm

La Patera Elementary School is greatly honored to be a recipient of a QAD Project Upgrade Grant that will support the advancement of the school’s technology infrastructure. The funds totaling, $24,520, will provide six Smart Carts and eight online reading intervention licenses to enhance student instruction and learning.

Each classroom Smart Cart consists of a document camera, LCD projector, DVD player and microphone that can be used in conjunction with a laptop. These tools have remarkably transformed teacher instruction and student participation in the learning process. Presently, teachers share a few of these treasured carts purchased by limited school funds. QAD’s funding will enable upper grade

teachers at La Patera to have their own cart as part of the standard equipment in each classroom.

Funding from Project Upgrade will also provide licensing for Reading Plus, an online reading intervention program, for eight computers. The program will be utilized with identified students to increase reading fluency rates and boost reading achievement.

Murray Ray, the Community Involvement Committee Executive Sponsor and QAD Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, will personally present the Project Upgrade check to La Patera School students and their principal, Patty Santiago, on Friday morning. Goleta Union School District Superintendent, Dr. Kathleen Boomer, and Board President, Valerie Kushnerov, will be in attendance.

The public are invited to Friday’s event at 8:30 a.m. La Patera Elementary School is located at 555 N. La Patera Lane in Goleta. For more information, please contact Donna Madrigal, Assistant Superintendent, at 681- 1200, #214 .
