Thanks to a freshly awarded federal grant, Adelante Charter School, Santa Barbara’s only dual-immersion bilingual school, saw its budget get a nearly $1 million cash infusion this week. Even better, the money, made possible by a U.S. Department of Education School Improvement grant, is earmarked specifically for student achievement-boosting endeavors. According to Adelante Principal Juanita Hernandez, the funds, which will be spread out over the next three academic years, will be used for things like new computers in the school’s Family Center and expanded before school and after school activities.
