Please Pass the Scapegoat

In their search for scapegoats to account for their financial woes, the usual whiners in the business community and their enablers and promoters among local politicians have decided to ignore the global economic downturn and their own inability to adapt to it. They blame instead the supposed avalanche of tourist websites with alarmed postings on how disgusting and unvisitable the homeless have made Santa Barbara.

Self-serving politicians who typically oppose government spending on social programs seem to have no problem in finding funds to attack the homeless, or the vagrants, or the transients, or whatever linguistic contortions certain politicians have tried to come up with to disguise their distaste for people they might as well just call the “undesirables.” They would leave it to the police sort out the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly. People can decide for themselves how best to describe these political hacks and opportunists.
