What if a business began that was a series of stores, like Walmart, Target, etc. but smaller versions, and they were called All American? These stores would look and feel just like what we are used to except all products carried would be made in America. This would create many jobs and keep our money here, where it can do us some good. We know job creation is very essential to our recovery as are income, spending, and taxes from the employed, compared to people collecting unemployment insurance.
Where I cannot see a perfect way to make this work is due to the fact that the cost of labor in China, India, and other countries is so much lower that we can’t seem to compete. But what if these stores received tax credits for the difference? Certainly Walmart, etc. would cry foul. But would the positive effect outweigh the negative, if the government gave Walmart, etc. the same deal? When they buy something made in America vs. China, Walmart gets a tax credit for the margin of difference in the cost of manufacturing.
Since the government funds oil giants and agriculture, why not its other “bread basket,” the labor market, the wanting-to-work American?
