International Peace Day, Anyone?

Wed Sep 21, 2011 | 04:23pm

This nation seems to be as polarized as I have ever seen it. I believe that one thing most of us could agree on would be that it is a good idea to stop killing each other for at least one day a year.

International Peace Day has been picking up worldwide support since 1982. It provides a chance for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. One such example is the woman in Afghanistan who worked with the Taliban and others to have a cease fire on September 21 in order to give the polio vaccination to children.

There will be a film and short program this Wednesday, September 21, 7-8 p.m. in the Faulkner gallery at the main branch of the Public Library.

Whether you are a member of the Tea Party or a progressive democrat, a teacher or a student, young or old , I think that we can all support International Peace Day.

After all, we all want peace.
