The Green

Ways & Means

Mon Oct 03, 2011 | 06:00am

The label “Jawaiian reggae” doesn’t do full justice to the sophisticated, international style of music on The Green’s sophomore release, but it does conjure some of the atmosphere out of which these talented men from Honolulu have emerged. Following the release of their self-titled debut, which was voted Best Reggae Album of 2010 by the subscribers at iTunes, The Green’s four singing and songwriting members (Caleb Keolanui, JP Kennedy, Ikaika Antone, and Zion Thompson) returned to the studio. What they’ve emerged with is a great, highly listenable record that’s as contemporary as Rebelution or Easy Star All-Stars, yet which harkens back to the sweet harmonies of classic Jamaican artists like The Heptones. Catch them live on Saturday, October 8, at Velvet Jones at 8 p.m. For tickets and info, visit clubmercy.com.
