Are You Sure It’s Not a Fruit?

I was at first appalled upon reading that the U.S. Congress allowed pizza to be kept on the school children’s lunch menu – as a veggie. Oh yeah, the tomato paste… Then I found out what was behind it. Not stupidity, which seemed apparent, but – why am I surprised – the food lobby, whcih spent millions preventing more quality food from being included and requiring the less nutritious to be kept on the kids lunch plates.

Why should any of us be surprised? Unless we still would like to believe our representatives really represent more than pandering to the lobbyists.

I guess I am just naive and think a system as good as ours deserves good people making and administering the law for the people, and not the lobby-people but the real people.

Someone, please, what do we do? We might just begin a little at a time and picket some schools with” Pizza is not a veggie,” and “Make our kids healthy not heavy.”
