Milo Greene

The Hello Sessions

Tue Jan 24, 2012 | 06:00am

Late last year, Milo Greene took to the stage at the Lobero as openers for The Civil Wars and, in the span of less than a song, had effectively stolen the show. While the world is still waiting to hear the band’s debut album (due for release later this year), this vinyl-and-online-only EP does plenty to satiate in the meantime. Drawing from the same harmony-driven roots as Fleet Foxes, these five create a hybrid of soothing, soulful folk and persistent, percussion-driven indie rock. Here, tracks like “Autumn Tree” beautifully showcase the call-and-response vocals and big, building instrumentation that makes the band’s live show so engaging. And if you’re into swelling song structures, look no further than “1957,” which opens The Hello Sessions with a serene mix of acoustic guitars, insistent rim clicks, and tambourine-accompanied guy-girl vocals. Milo Greene plays Muddy Waters Café on Friday, February 17. Visit clubmercy.com for tickets.
