The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reminds home owners that providing and maintaining a defensible space around your home, can reduce the risk of structural damage caused by the now year round threat of a wildfire.

Please consider these three defensible space guidelines:

  1. Create and maintain a defensible space of at least 100 feet or greater around each building or structure on your property.
  2. Preserve single specimens or groupings of well-spaced and well-pruned trees or other vegetation.
  3. Eliminate ladder fuels within the defensible space zone by disrupting the vertical and /or horizontal continuity of plants.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reminds homeowners that proper landscape maintenance can dramatically reduce the risk of fire transmission to your property and provide a defensible space so that firefighters can safely protect your home during a wildfire.
