City Debuts the First of a New Line of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Just in Time for Earth Day

Fri Apr 20, 2012 | 09:42am

The charging units are provided to the City free of charge by Coulomb Technologies through a U.S. Department of Energy grant. The chargers will be available to the public for free electric vehicle charging during this weekend’s Earth Day festival at Alameda Park.

Coulomb provided a total of eight charging units, including the two recently installed at the Granada Garage. The remaining six units will be installed at City Lot 7, located at the Downtown Library, the Harbor parking lot, and the City’s new Helena Street Parking Lot, located at 217 Helena Street.

Charging services will be provided at no cost until July 1, 2012, when an introductory rate of $2.00 per hour will take effect. Parking spaces served by the charging stations will be reserved exclusively for electric vehicles. The stations are accessible with a ChargePoint card or other major credit card. Visit www.chargepoint.net for reservations and billing options.
