Thu Jun 07, 2012 | 09:00am

The Santa Barbara Foresters will play six home games in seven days beginning Friday, June 8, at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The defending National Baseball Congress champions will take on the Bakersfield Braves, San Diego Force (two games), San Luis Obispo Rattlers and Southern California Halos (two games) during the homestand.

The roster of the Foresters is still taking shape, as players taken in the Major League Draft have the option of beginning their professional careers. “We lose guys to the pros every year,” Coach Bill Pintard said.

The summer polo season is under way at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. On Sunday, June 10, the first annual Rubirosa Ambassador Cup will take place there. It is named in honor of Porfirio Rubirosa, a legendary Dominican polo player and diplomat who made worldwide headlines for his romantic adventures.

It evolved into an annual sports festival open to the public around the July 4 holiday. There is no charge for spectators at any event, but the festival’s primary objective is to encourage participation. Events in the 75th Semana Nautica include age-group and masters swimming, ocean swims, flying disc competitions, a 15-kilometer run, beach volleyball, beach soccer, softball, tennis, and a cardboard kayak race.
