As students move-out they donate clothes, bikes, electronics, books, kitchenware, furniture and household items they no longer need. Volunteers gather and organize the thousands of items for a huge two day event in the parking lot of Embarcadero Hall. Everyone is invited to shop from 8AM to 4PM for quality items at great prices. One shopper furnished their new apartment for under $150!
GIVE! is a UCSB sponsored project developed to encourage students to have a zero waste move-out that turns reusable items into cash for several non-profits in the Isla Vista Community. Last year GIVE! distributed over $25,000!
What could be better? A collaborative event that allows the students to be responsible and support their community as well as provide a fun way to reuse and restyle items that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
Everyone wins! One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
