Protect Your Hearing During the Solstice Concerts

Fri Jun 22, 2012 | 12:44pm

During our festivals there is a lot of great music. With great music though, often comes noise, loud noise. The “safe” noise level is below 85 decibels. Twenty million Americans have hearing loss from noise damage and 60% of people with hearing loss are between the ages of 21 – 64.

You can protect yourself from NIHL, or noise-induced hearing loss. Turn down the volume on your iPod player, take a break from listening sessions and make it a shorter time frame. Move a safe distance from the speakers at a concert, or better yet, consider earplugs when you are going to be in an 85-decibel plus environment, or even think you might be.

Santa Barbara Hearing Care is offering complimentary ear plug impressions. Donna Gilmartin offers this free service as part of her mission to fight hearing loss and educate you about ways to protect yourself.

Contact us at (805) 616-6431 or send an email to Donna Gilmartin, Audiologist at sbhearingcare@gmail.com to arrange an appointment for your complimentary ear plug impression. You can find out more about hearing loss here.
