High School Improvement Measure Insufficiently Justified

I just don’t feel comfortable saying “yes” to Measure L2012. It is too indefinite, and like signing a blank check. For example, the decision of whether to renovate an old building (or some other facility) or to replace it with a new building is left open at this time. Replacements should not be made just because of old age. For a replacement of a building or a facility to be fully justified, the total of the benefits should exceed the total of the costs of leaving the facility as is.

It appears also that old maintenance has been postponed that has been neglected far too long. Now the people requesting Measure L passage want additional funds to cover this oversight. During these uncertain times I urge a “no” vote for measure L2012 so that we don’t burden ourselves or our children with further taxes to provide unknown, unspecified, and possibly unneeded changes.
