ARTISTIC VISIONS: Each week, The Santa Barbara Independent editorial designers take a pile of gray-lettered stories and arrange them with eye-catching visuals, thus bringing the words to life. The masterminds behind the engaging layouts are a trio of artists: Art Director Ben Ciccati (right), a talented illustrator and seven-year veteran of the paper; Assistant Art Director Chelsea Lyon (left), a former S.L.O. graphic design student and three-year Indy-staffer; and Editorial Designer Caitlin Fitch (middle), a visual journalism Brooks Institute grad who joined the team in April.
