Brandon Fastman, who covers education and business as a staff reporter for The Santa Barbara Independent, was awarded a doctorate of English at a UCSB graduation on June 14. He received his traditional doctoral hood in the university’s blue and gold from Carol Genetti, dean of the Graduate Division (left), and English professor Stephanie LeMenager (in red). His dissertation was titled “Smart Reading: The Science of Intelligence in Twentieth Century American Literature.” Congratulations, Dr. Fastman. We’re proud of you.
