MEAGHERED FOR LIFE: Longtime news reporter Chris Meagher was given a fond farewell by The Santa Barbara Independent last Friday at SOhO, where everyone dressed in the bespectacled Meagher’s typical plaid shirt, tight pants, and boat shoes combo and sipped on “Meagher-garitas.” (Yeah, it’s pronounced “marr.”) In traditional Indy fashion, he was presented with a mock cover of the paper featuring hilarious headlines, and toasted by many. In response, Meagher, who started his new job as Lois Capps’s press secretary this week, described his time at the paper as “by far the best years of my life.” Cue tear-wiping.
