De la Vina Street

Riffing on comments from residents who dare to reside beside a thoroughfare.

Ennui is rare on De la Vina Street –

Few stop signs or lights inhibit speeding,

Cross town frustration sends danger breeding –

Brave are the ones who cross it with two feet,

Stalwart are those who cruise it on a seat,

Hauntingly downhill, a slippery slope,

Resistant to change, its residents cope –

Road kill the proof that their street is bleeding.

De la Vina is a stem of the vine,

An artery of the town’s ebb and flow,

A place where our past and future combine

Into one scary train wreck of a show –

A Santa Barbara that hates to slow down

And misses the beauty all over town.
