Avon may be known for its cosmetic products (and its catchy slogan, “Ding Dong, Avon Calling”), but the company also has a philanthropic arm — the Avon Foundation for Women. While the foundation works to empower ladies in many areas, one of its biggest fundraisers is its annual Walk for Breast Cancer. Started in 2003, the event is composed of eight 39-mile walks held in cities across the U.S.; it has raised more than $400 million for breast cancer research in the past 10 years. Santa Barbara has long been a host city and will be again this year when the weekend walk takes place September 7-8. It’s a massive undertaking to organize and wouldn’t get done without the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time leading up to and during the event.
