Girls Inc. of Greater SB Celebrates the 2nd Annual Day of the Girl

Wed Oct 09, 2013 | 01:58pm

On October 11, 2013, Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara will celebrate the second annual International Day of the Girl (dayofthegirl.org), a coordinated youth-led movement responding to the urgent problem of neglect and devaluation of girls around the world. The day is an opportunity to celebrate girls’ lives, raise awareness of the challenges they face, and ultimately advance their opportunities across the globe.

The mission of the event is to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, and to provide opportunities for them to show leadership and reach their full potential. The theme of this year’s event is: “Innovating for Girls’ Education”, acknowledging the powerful transformative force of education in girls’ lives. To mark this occasion and raise awareness, on October 11, Girls Inc. participants and staff will wear red to commemorate this vital event that is bigger than one issue or one organization, and acknowledge the importance of continuing to strive for gender equality everywhere.

Please join us, wear red on October 11, and help us celebrate the lives and achievements of girls in our community, and around the world.
