The Future Leaders of America, Santa Barbara, San Marcos and Dos Pueblos High Schools ASB Presidents and the SB Youth Council will co-host a Youth Council Candidates Forum featuring Mayor and City Council candidates. The forum will be held Monday, October 14 from 5:30-8:00pm at the Louise Lowry Davis Center. The Forum will focus on issues and concerns related to youth and young adults, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Following a welcome and introduction by Youth Council Chair Kayla Simons, panelists–student body presidents from Santa Barbara, San Marcos and Dos Pueblos High Schools– will field questions to the candidates. The event will be moderated by Isis Castaneda, Program Director for Academy of Healing Arts, and a member of the Santa Barbara Teen Coalition.

Questions are being developed through student government, the Youth Council, and other community youth. Youth organizer Jackie Cabral stated, “The questions are timely and important for both youth and voting adults.” As time allows, additional questions may be fielded from the audience, and the program will end with closing remarks from each candidate.

The Youth Council has invited all candidates and is hopeful all will attend. “Our country and our community have issues that will affect the future,” says Kayla Simons, “so we know this is important.”
