Santa Barbara High will take a shot at its first CIF Southern Section girls basketball championship on Saturday, March 8, when the Dons will face the Lakeside Lancers at Azusa Pacific University. Tipoff is scheduled at 2 pm.

In the 40 years of CIF-sanctioned girls basketball, the Dons have played in one other Southern Section final – in 1989, when Hart defeated the Dons, 63-49.

Santa Barbara (25-5) was top-seeded in Division 3AA after finishing second to Ventura, a Division 1A title contender, in the Channel League. Lakeside (23-6) went undefeated in the Sunbelt League and is the No. 2-seeded team.

Lakeside, which opened nine years ago in Lake Elsinore, is making its first appearance in the CIF finals.

Tickets ($7-$13) will go on sale at the high school Wednesday afternoon. There is no parking charge at Azusa Pacific (901 E. Alosta Avenue, Azusa).
