Special Education: What Parents Need to Know for their Children to Be Successful

The parent advocacy organization United Parents-Padres Unidos (UPPU) will be having its annual membership meeting on Thursday April 24, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the Cafeteria of La Colina Junior High, located on 4025 Foothill Rd. in Santa Barbara. After an overview of UPPU and its accomplishments, the election of board members and officers will take place. At 6:30pm will start the program about Special Education. Helen Rodriguez, Assistant Superintended for Special Education at the Santa Barbara Unified School District, and her team of Specialists will inform parents about what constitutes special education, how children are assessed, and the supports and services provided by schools. A Q&A session will follow.

United Parents-Padres Unidos is a community-based, all-volunteer organization of parents and community members who help equip and train parents to become advocates for their children in the school system.
