Time for Wilderness Protection

Fri Dec 18, 2015 | 06:00am

Our open space, mild climate, clean air and water, and easy access to outdoor recreation make the Central Coast a wonderful place to live as well as a top tourist destination, enhancing property values and promoting a healthy economy.

Massive nearby population centers like Los Angeles drive us to develop our remaining public lands. Resource extraction has established ongoing pressure for roads and large-scale development associated with those industries.

After years of collaborative effort, the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act has been introduced in both houses of Congress. It has over 500 diverse supporters. With a coming election year that will replace retiring legislators, now is the time to help save these wildlands and rivers.

The pending retirements of environmental champions Representative Lois Capps and Senator Barbara Boxer mean we have only a short time to preserve these vital wild spaces, rivers, and trails.

Let’s show strong support for Capps and Boxer, helping them leave an invaluable legacy for future generations.

Please write today to Rep. Lois Capps and Sen. Barbara Boxer.
