Marijuana Safety Issue

Sun Oct 30, 2016 | 12:00am

Governor Brown has just recently ordered studies involving marijuana effects on driving safety. Will they be complete before it is legalized? Is it already enough to know that in Colorado, fatal crashes have risen since marijuana legalization there?

The half-life of marijuana in the system varies from as little as 1.3 days for an infrequent user to 5-13 days in a frequent user (statistics from PubMed, “Chemistry, Metabolism, and Toxicology of Cannabis: Clinical Implications”). Does this mean that one should not drive for at least 1.3 days after smoking? Or wait to drive for 5-13 days if they are a frequent user?

Since we don’t know how long or severely marijuana impacts our driving, shouldn’t we wait to legalize at least until there are good self-driving cars?
