Despite a promising regular season the Bishop Diego boys’ basketball team bowed out of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs in the first round after a  54-53 overtime loss to Rancho Mirage on Wednesday night at the Brickhouse.

The Cardinals led 53-51 with the clock running down in overtime, but Rancho Mirage sophomore  Cash Gervin knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer with three seconds remaining that lifted the visiting Rattlers to an improbable victory.

Bishop Diego took a 48-41 with just over two minutes  remaining in regulation on a Damien Krautman dunk, but Rancho Mirage was able to close the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run capped off by two free throws from Syeed Baaree, who led all scorers with 23 points.
