November’s Blue Whale Reading Series will feature poets Melinda Palacio and Diana Raab, who will be followed by a limited open mic.

Melinda Palacio was the City of Santa Barbara’s 10th Poet Laureate (2023-2025). Her poetry chapbook, Folsom Lockdown, won Kulupi Press’ Sense of Place 2009 award. She is the author of the novel, Ocotillo Dreams, for which she was awarded the Mariposa Award at the 2012 International Latino Book Awards and a 2012 PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Award for Excellence in Literature. Her first full-length poetry collection, How Fire Is a Story, Waiting, was a finalist for the Milt Kessler Award, the Paterson Prize, and received First Prize in Poetry at the 2013 International Latino Book Awards. Her latest poetry collection is Bird Forgiveness. She also writes a bimonthly column for the Santa Barbara Independent and La Bloga.

Diana Raab, PhD is a memoirist, poet, essayist, thought-leader, and speaker. She presents workshops in writing for healing and transformation. She has a PhD in Psychology with a concentration in Transpersonal Psychology with a research focus on the healing and transformative powers of memoir writing. Her educational background also includes health administration, nursing, and creative writing. She’s an award-winning author of 14 books, and her articles and poems have been published and anthologized worldwide. Her most recent poetry collection is An Imaginary Affair: Poems Whispered to Neruda.

The event will be hosted by Christine Kravetz and Laure-Anne Bosselaar.
