An evening service intended for rest and contemplation. Compline is led by the Rev. Sarah Thomas. It begins with synthesized ambient music by DJ artist, Andrew Elia, then a transition with loose-leaf brewed herbal tea, and concludes with the opportunity to hear a person share a personal story. This month’s storyteller is Steve Jacobsen. Steve has been active in the local community for 33 years as a pastor, interfaith leader, Executive Director of Hospice of Santa Barbara, and Director of La Casa de Maria Retreat Center.
In the aftermath of 9/11, there was a great deal of tension centered on the threat of terrorism. Steve received a grant to fund a special project known as “The Sons and Daughters of Abraham,” which brought together representatives from Muslim, Jewish, and Christian congregations to engage in a year of exploration and relationship building. Steve will tell the story of the many surprises and lasting lessons that emerged.
Incense and candlelight are used during the service. Trinity is an LGBTQ+ welcoming and affirming congregation. www.trinitysb.org/compline
