Join Fatmir “Miri” Mara to celebrate 12 Years of Mira Mara Ceramics on December 12, from 10 am to 6 pm at his studio, 5292 B Carpinteria Avenue. Guests will enjoy refreshments, a celebratory toast, and 20% off all ceramics, along with additional sale items. RSVPs are requested by December 1 to info@mirimara.com.
Miri’s work is admired for combining traditional materials and craftsmanship with an industrial design sensibility. His work reflects a refined personal vocabulary rooted in tapering cylinders and conical forms rather than spherical shapes.
“Ceramics is a passion of mine that has fulfilled half of my life,” says Miri, “Inspiration comes from everything around me – it can be looking at a bridge, hardware, a door handle, it is truly everywhere. Every piece is unique to my personal style, at once an original and a part of the bigger concept.”
This 12th anniversary is also a celebration of Miri’s personal resilience. His studio persevered through Covid, and before that, Miri pushed on through the devastation of losing all of his work in the Thomas Fire in 2008. His passion for design and creation continues to flourish.
Mara was a successful fashion designer in Italy before retiring to Montecito with his husband, Rick Perkins. His love of creating led him to enroll in a ceramics course at Santa Barbara City College, launching a new chapter as an esteemed contemporary artist known for his distinctive, sophisticated style.
