Theatre Eclectic and SBCC School of Extended Learning present Smiling Through It All ~ An Evening of One Act Plays, in 5 open performances – December 2 and 9 at Wake Campus Auditorium, December 4 and 11 at Schott Campus Auditorium, all at 7 pm (doors open at 6:45 p.m.), and December 6, at Friendship Manor Senior Community, at 2:00 p.m. (doors open at 1:45).
The show will include an eclectic program of seven one act plays, including the fast-paced farce, The Proposal, by Anton Chekhov, and 6 others written by our local playwrights – Christmas Without Family? by award-winning local playwright, Lisa Marciano; a powerful commentary on our times, Driving with Ana, and a comedy of brothers trying to catch up with the 21st century, Frick and Frack: the Brothers Funny, both by Sara Fenstermaker; as well as the artful One of a Kind by Marcia Wilkie, Wanted: One Good Vice, by Irene Solovij, and a rollicking comedy of misunderstanding, The Neighborhood Watch, by Lynne Herrell.
All shows are free and no advance tickets are required.
Theatre Eclectic is the production arm of the SBCC School of Extended Learning theater workshop, Acting for Older Adults.
Theatre Eclectic’s mission is to bring together underrepresented artists to perform for under served audiences in order to create a sense of community through theater.
As TE’s Artistic Director and Instructor, Philip Levien, says: “We aim to create circles of community amongst our artists, and between our artists and the audiences. . . I like the idea of diverse patches sewn together into a unified quilt; the metaphor suggests warmth. That’s what we hope you will feel as you become a part of our Theatre Eclectic community.”
