Margery Ann Smith

Margery Ann Smith, of Santa Barbara, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born at Cottage Hospital on February 8, 1933 to Walter and Georgia (Hunter) Smith.

Marge, as she was known to her family and friends, attended Hope Elementary School, La Cumbre Junior High, and graduated from Santa Barbara High School. She went on to UCSB, where she received a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating college, Marge taught at the College Elementary School in Santa Ynez for six years. She later pursued a graduate certificate in the Bible at Multnomah University.

Marge loved the Lord, and she dedicated a large part of her life to serving Him. She worked with Christian Endeavor from 1947-1961 and then went on to serve as a missionary with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) in Irian Jaya (Papua, Indonesia) from 1961-1998.

In her retirement years, she was active with the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) in Santa Barbara. She held Bible studies with her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed attending Sunday worship services and the women’s Bible study at Bethany Congregational Church.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter David Smith. She will be missed by many friends and neighbors, who were like family. We are grateful to the compassionate caregivers who enabled Marge to remain at home in her final years.

Private interment was held at Santa Barbara Cemetery under the direction of Welch-Ryce-Haider.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on January 10, 2026 at Bethany Congregational Church, 556 N. Hope Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) or Bethany Congregational Church.

We rejoice in knowing that Marge is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
