Phil DiMatteo

Phil DiMatteo, aged 89, passed away at his home in Santa Barbara, on October 9, 2025. Born on February 12, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the cherished son of immigrant parents Salvatore DiMatteo and Lucia DiCapua.

Phil met his wife, Celeste Byers in St. Louis, Missouri and together they had a large family of 6. Phil’s greatest treasure was his kids. He nurtured the hope that they would always support and care for each other. Phil was proud to have climbed Mount Whitney at the age of 65 and to have explored all 50 states. He also enjoyed volunteering with his skills in home improvement and mechanical/electrical skills for both relatives and friends.

To honor Phil’s wishes, he was laid to rest at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Knobel, Arkansas on November 10, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be held in Santa Barbara at St. Raphaels Catholic Church on January 10th at 10am, allowing family and friends to celebrate his life and legacy.
