MaryLou A. Ramos
MaryLou was born at Travis Air Force Base, California, and grew up in Winters, California. She made Santa Barbara her home, dedicating 42 years to UC Santa Barbara in educational development, a career that reflected her commitment to learning and helping others thrive.
Her greatest passion was golf, and she was an integral part of Santa Barbara’s golf community. MaryLou played with the EWGA on the first Sunday of every month, every Wednesday with the women’s group, and on Saturdays at the Alisal course. She competed in numerous tournaments throughout California, building lasting friendships along the way.
For 24 wonderful years, MaryLou shared a life with her beloved partner, Karen Haskell. Together they embraced adventure, traveling in their Winnebago Travato to see solar eclipses, visit family, and explore the country with their dogs by their side. She loved planning new excursions and experiencing the world alongside Karen.
At home, Mary Lou and Karen created a joyful little farm filled with life and love. She delighted in gardening, growing tomatoes and peppers in raised beds. Their home was shared with ducks, chickens, a potbelly pig, two dogs, a cat, and a fish pond with turtles. MaryLou was kind, positive, and generous, with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved cooking for friends and family and sharing her culinary creations with anyone who visited.
MaryLou had a lifelong curiosity about the universe, often gazing at the stars through her telescope and binoculars, always exploring and learning.
MaryLou is survived by her beloved partner, Karen Haskell; her mother, Isabel Ramos; her brother, Michael Ramos; her sister, Carmina, and brother-in-law, Steve Caselli; nephew Evan; along with many cousins and extended family members in Winters, California. She was preceded in death by her father, Baldomero A. Ramos.
Being with MaryLou was a gift to all who knew her. She leaves behind a life filled with love, adventure, laughter, and deep community. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
