An evening service intended for rest and contemplation. Compline is led by the Rev. Sarah Thomas. It begins with synthesized ambient music by DJ artist, Andrew Elia, then a transition with loose-leaf brewed herbal tea, and concludes with the opportunity to hear a person share a personal story.
This month’s storyteller is Eva Braunstein. Eva is a philosopher and a scholar of Western mystical traditions, and she teaches writing and religious studies courses at UCSB. She has written about the late-medieval mystic Nicholas of Cusa and modern German philosophy, in search of the meaning of the human and the healing power of the humanities in contemporary life. Her great passion is to see students fall in love with language as a way of world-building, and to witness the sacred moments at which someone expands their perspective, often by surprise. Eva’s story will be about mystical encounters with divine love, sometimes through icons as tiny as mollusks.
Incense and candlelight are used during the service.
Trinity is an LGBTQ+ welcoming and affirming congregation.
