“Rub Some Dirt On It”: What Science Teaches Us About Raising Resilient Humans by Dr. Smaranda Lawrie, Psychology Professor at Westment College…
This is an evidence-based look at how well-intended parenting and schooling may undermine resilience—and what science, cross-cultural research, and student experience reveal about raising stronger, more capable young people.
Dr. Smaranda Lawrie is the founding Director of Westmont’s Center for Resilience and Human Flourishing, where she also serves as Professor of Psychology and Lead Investigator of the Cultural and Positive Psychology Lab. She is the editor of two forthcoming books on teaching positive psychology and cultural psychology, a Scientific Research Associate at UCSB, and a Scientific Advisor to the Flourish app. She has also developed extracurricular before- and after-school programs that help young people (kinder and up) build mental toughness and resilience.
