MOVE Santa Barbara County Takes to the Streets with

a Brass Band to Launch National Bike Month

Santa Barbara’s transportation nonprofit leader brings New Orleans Second Line tradition to State Street in joyful celebration of walking, biking, and safe streets

SANTA BARBARA, CA –  MOVE Santa Barbara County, the county’s leading active transportation nonprofit, is kicking off May National Bike Month with a bang. On Friday, May 1, at 5 PM, MOVE will lead a Second Line Slow Roll down the car-free stretch of State Street, accompanied by the Brasscals, Santa Barbara’s own street brass band. The free community event is open to walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users, and anyone who wants to roll or stroll down State Street at marching band rhythm and pace.

The Second Line Slow Roll is MOVE’s kickoff to CycleMAYnia, Santa Barbara County’s celebration of National Bike Month. It is also a statement: active transportation is not just practical, it is joyful, inclusive, and community-driven.

“National Bike Month is about more than counting cyclists. We are celebrating the joy of great streets and moving safely through our community together. That is exactly what CycleMAYnia and this event are all about. If you can walk or roll, ride or stroll, you belong in procession with us.” – Sarah Iannarone, Executive Director, MOVE Santa Barbara County
