Lawrence Edward Bond
Larry was born in London, England, during World War II. He was one of four brothers. Alongside his younger brother, Ken, he spent 8 formative years in an orphanage. After finishing school, he took on all sorts of jobs—delivering coal, working in a sausage factory, and even learning furniture making.
When Larry mentioned wanting to work on a ranch, a friend suggested he head abroad—Australia or Canada. At 17, after saving up, he sailed to Canada leading the way and eventually he was joined by his younger brother Ken, after which the two of them worked their way across Canada on various farms and ranches. Following their shared spirit of exploration, they turned their sights south, heading in to the U.S. After some travels, they landed in Santa Barbara, finishing their ranching days on Hollister Ranch.
Larry wore many hats—working on oil derricks, becoming a commercial diver and fisherman, and owning his boat, The Fagin. That’s when Larry met Monica, and together, they shared 59 adventurous years and wonderful memories. They raised their two children, Ian and Heather, both of whom inherited his entrepreneurial spirit. Ian and his wife, Julie, have three kids—Kylee Wynn, and Ava. Heather has a daughter, Keely, who both lived along side him and Monica on their mountain home. For years Larry bought and sold antiques before turning his talents to raising and selling plants, specializing in succulents. He had quite the green thumb. As the years passed, his love of nature grew, and he found happiness and tranquility in their mountain community. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he lived life on his terms, to its fullest, and passed peacefully in his sleep.
His family and friends hold him dear, echoing one of his favorite songs “We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when, but I know we’ll meet again one sunny day.” Until that day comes we will miss you Larry, — Dad, Pa, Baba, Grandpa. We love you.
