Marjorie Hill

Marjorie Jane Hill (née Vranish), a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, in Alexandria, Virginia. She was born in Santa Barbara, California, on August 23, 1954, to Ila and George Vranish.

Marjorie graduated from San Marcos High School in 1972 and was attending Santa Barbara City College when she met her future husband, Terry Hill, on a blind date. Having both grown up in and loved Santa Barbara, they chose to raise their family there and welcomed their son, Ryan, and daughter, Stacy.

Marjorie was a true Renaissance woman with a wide range of interests and talents. She baked specialty cakes as a side business, sewed clothing and costumes, performed tap, jazz, and ballet with the Rudenko School of Dance, and competed in Western horse shows. She also loved traveling with family and friends, creating treasured memories on trips to New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and on countless cross-country road trips to visit America’s national parks. As the family’s historian, Marjorie lovingly preserved photographs, mementos, and keepsakes from her travels and throughout her life.

Marjorie devoted many years to caring for her dear friend Barbara Rudenko and for her mother, Ila. She was also a constant source of love, encouragement, and guidance to her own children and to her nieces, nephews, and their children. Family and friends will remember her for her quick wit, generous heart, warm smile, and unwavering kindness. She embodied the very best qualities of a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Malcheski; her niece, Lisa Malcheski; and her parents, George Vranish Sr. and Ila Vranish.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Terry Hill; her son, Ryan Hill (Hannah); her daughter, Stacy Hill (Amir Mohebali); her brothers, Larry Vranish, Steve Vranish (Caron), and George Vranish (Mona). Her love of family, adventure, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her last wish is to have her cremated remains scattered in the Scottish Highlands on a final adventure with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Marjorie’s honor may be made to the Santa Barbara Zoo or the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
