James Asselin

James Parker Asselin is a Santa Barbara-based singer-songwriter whose music lives somewhere between folk, rock, and the music he grew up playing in church. Coming from a family of singers and songwriters, music has always been less of a separate pursuit and more a part of how life gets remembered, celebrated, questioned, and occasionally made fun of. His songs are rooted in the people and places closest to him—family, friendship, faith and doubt, California, and the occasional trip abroad. Some are gifts for people he loves; others are attempts to make sense of things he hasn’t quite figured out yet. After years of writing and making music alongside friends and family, James’ songs are a collection of stories about growing up, paying attention, and finding something sacred—or at least worth singing about—in ordinary life.
