An Evening with Artists Brian Kuhlmann and Joslyn Lawrence
Thursday, November 5, 2026 | 6 PM | Domecil, Santa Barbara
For twenty years, artists Brian Kuhlmann and Joslyn Lawrence have been drawn into forests and landscapes around the world, following a shared curiosity about trees, their beauty, their resilience, and the stories they hold. Along the way, they have witnessed extraordinary change. Some of the trees they once stood beneath and photographed are no longer there.
From these experiences grew Song of Absolution, an ongoing photographic collaboration that has become both a celebration of the natural world and a record of what is disappearing.
On Thursday, November 5, Kuhlmann and Lawrence invite guests to join them at Domecil for an intimate evening of photography, storytelling, and conversation.
The artists will share the evolution of their work, with a special focus on a recent commission documenting indigenous Florida trees for a historic hotel project in Ybor City, Tampa. Through selected photographs and personal stories, they will explore the experience of finding these trees, the moments that inspired the images, and the process of transforming photographs into finished works of art.
The evening will also offer a glimpse into their individual creative journeys, including Lawrence’s recent exhibition work and Kuhlmann’s emerging photographic exploration of wild horses.
Guests will have an opportunity to view selected artwork and learn about the forthcoming Song of Absolution fine art photography book, bringing together two decades of observation, travel, and collaboration.
The artist presentation begins at 6 PM, followed by audience questions and conversation.
