Santa Barbara Black Culture House, a pop up event space centered in the culture of the African Diaspora, is hosting a panel discussion titled “100 Years Of Black History Month: A Living Legacy.”
There will be a lively discussion about the crowning achievement of journalist/historian/educator Carter G. Woodson–Negro History Week, which evolved into Black History Month–and its contributions to the culture at large.
But we will also focus on what Black History Month means in an atmosphere of heightened anti-Blackness and how the Black community can protect and expand its outreach and influence.
Confirmed panelists are:
James Joyce III, journalist, host of Coffee With A Black Guy, former District Manager for Hannah Beth Jackson, and former Santa Barbara mayoral candidate.
Aaron Jones, Director of the UC Santa Barbara Educational Opportunity Program.
Another panelist will be announced shortly.
Darrell McNeill, co-founder of Santa Barbara Black Culture House, will moderate.
The panel discussion “100 Years Of Black History Month: A Living Legacy” will be hosted at The Hub event space in downtown Santa Barbara, 1219 State Street between Victoria and Anapamu. The event starts at 1PM, is open to the public and FREE.
Santa Barbara Black Culture House events are made possible through grants from the Santa Barbara Office of Arts and Culture, the Towbes Fund for the Performing Arts, and partnerships with the Black Rock Coalition and TVSB.
