CritelliCreative is proud to announce the publication of Lemons and Ladybugs: Part II written by Mike Critelli, inspired by the words of Angelina Speier, commencing with a book launch event on Sunday, December 14, 3-5pm at the Goleta Community Center.
Books will be available for purchase at the event or direct from CritelliCreative.com and Amazon beginning December 12th.
To commemorate the completion of this 8-year-long, two-book effort, CritelliCreative is throwing a launch party. The program will include readings, commentary by the authors, a Q&A, and a signing / meet and greet.
The first Lemons and Ladybugs, published in October 2022, introduced the story of the late Kevin Speier, a young Goleta resident who battled addiction, and later tongue cancer at age 32.
His wife Angel shared their story for a large digital audience from 2015 to 2017.
Through interviews, profiles of local residents, and Angel’s distinct diary of social media posts, Critelli tells a true story set in Goleta and uncovers the hidden impact that one individual can make on their community.
Lemons and Ladybugs: Part II completes the saga, going deeper into themes of family and spirituality.
At this stage, Kevin’s disease returns in spite of the treatment, foreshadowing a possible tragic end.
And yet, tales of courage, redemption, and salvation abound. Part II shows its characters overcoming fears and witnessing signs of realms beyond.
Heartwarming, dramatic, and often very funny, the Lemons and Ladybugs series asks us to reconsider the meaning of life and death itself.
These unique hybrid-style memoirs are a time-capsule from the height of the social media era.
The book’s design includes printed blog excerpts by Angel Speier, from the Facebook Group, “Kick Cancer’s *ss Kevin!” Cover design is based on one-of-a-kind stained-glass artwork by Jill Critelli, the editor and designer of both volumes.
