As part of Santa Barbara High School’s 150th anniversary celebration, Chaucer’s Books (3321 State Street) hosts Dons’ alumna and Author Becky Shawver (Best Romance Scam Victim Ever).
Book Description
“You are an intelligent and responsible adult. What did he do to draw you into this mess, Heather?” With great intensity, her voice both gentle and firm, Laura stared at Heather and asked, “What was so special about this man that you would give credence to what he was saying?” With utmost care, Laura steered Heather toward an uncomfortable truth: Oblivious to her own missteps, not only had Heather stubbornly disregarded the concerns of friends and family, she had also been hiding from God.
Heather met him on Match.com. He said his name was Paul, and he seemed to have all the right credentials. A handsome, Oxford educated artist and worldwide traveler, he was just about her age. He swept her off her feet with all the right words and so began the tugging at her heartstrings. But what seemed like a relationship made in heaven soon turned into a journey of nightmarish hell. So wrapped up in Paul’s pleas for help, Heather did not notice how much her own life was changing, including the loss of $1.6 million.
May this true story of lies and deception help its readers to both discern and warn of those “wolves in sheep clothing” who prey upon the innocent and trusting.
