April 30, 2026 | Featuring: Maria Cabrera & Elise Tripp –  Dining in the Mission Era – A Tasty Adventure“, as part of the Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library’s “An Educating Conversation” series.

Join us for an evening of delicious food intermixed with historical tidbits, personal recollections, and recipes from our featured guests.

They will prepare a range of food to taste as a culinary celebration of both Chumash and Mexican cultures, with tasting, chatting and gaining insights into day-to-day life in the Mission Era.

This will not be a lecture, and more of an event.

Truly an exciting evening not to be missed!

Maria is a retired school teacher and an active member of the community.

She has been volunteering with the Mission for over 15 years, and is active all across the property between the parish, museum, archive, and with the Franciscans.

Elise, a member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and an SBMAL board member, describes her relationship with the land and food — “I’ve been fortunate to have been raised and grew up in the Santa Ynez Valley, my indigenous land.

Growing up with a family that lived off the land, by gathering, growing beautiful gardens, hunting and fishing, raising chickens and a few cattle.

The land was a provider for all, sometimes harsh, sometimes plentiful, but what was done for generations, the offering of our prepared food, was an act of necessity, but what I will always remember.

An act prepared by love and kindness.”

Early-Bird Access for Good Friends+ starts April 1st. General public tickets start April 2nd.

Logistics: RSVP Required | Doors at 5:30pm

About the series: Join a select group of those interested in an informative conversation with experts who will first share from a vast store of knowledge, then engage with those present in a lively give & take.
