Prime Time Band Returns to Plaza del Mar Band Shell for a Free Summer Concert
The PARC Foundation of Santa Barbara is pleased to announce that The Prime Time Band will present a free Sunday afternoon concert at the Plaza del Mar Band Shell on Sunday, August 24 at 2:00 pm. The community’s beloved ensemble will return to the stage with a lively program, filling the park with music and celebration.
Following their celebrated performance inaugurating the newly restored Band Shell in 2024, the Prime Time Band—under the direction of Dr. Paul Mori—returns to the stage with an uplifting program of familiar pops, spirited show tunes, and classic marches.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Plaza del Mar near Santa Barbara’s harbor, the open-air concert offers the perfect setting for an afternoon of music and community. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to choose a spot on the lawn and bring blankets or beach chairs to enjoy the performance in comfort.

ABOUT THE PRIME TIME BAND
Founded in 1995, The Prime Time Band is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and proud member of the New Horizons International Music Association. The band provides entry points to music-making for adults aged 40 and older, welcoming both complete beginners and those returning to music after years away.
Many members had not played an instrument since high school—or ever—before joining the ensemble and discovering the joy of creating music together. Over the years, The Prime Time Band has performed more than 175 free concerts and has been honored by the City of Santa Barbara as a “Santa Barbara Treasure.”
ABOUT PLAZA DEL MAR RENOVATION
Completed in 2024, the Plaza del Mar Band Shell Renovation Project returned a vibrant space for music, art, culture, and community events to one of Santa Barbara’s oldest parks. The full-scale renovation restored the structure’s historical charm while incorporating modern amenities to accommodate a diverse range of public events. Work included structural repairs to the building frame, replacement of the roof and wood stage, restoration of the original stage lighting, installation of full electrical service, and construction of an accessible pathway and ramp leading to the stage.
The Parks and Recreation Department and PARC Foundation aim to support access to a wide range of arts and cultural events at the Band Shell. Arts and culture organizations interested in hosting free performances for the public are encouraged to contact the Parks and Recreation Department.

Founded in 1985, the Parks and Recreation Community (PARC) Foundation has helped fund some of Santa Barbara’s most iconic park improvements and vital youth programs. A 501c3 nonprofit organization, our mission is to nurture parks and recreation to engage youth, support families, and strengthen cultural connections.
